What is polysomnography?

Polysomnography is a type of sleep test used to diagnose and evaluate sleep disorders. This test aims to analyse changes that occur during sleep by recording body functions during sleep.

How is it done?

Polysomnography is usually performed in a sleep laboratory or in an office environment. The person is monitored throughout the night to collect data on body functions through sensors attached during sleep. Sensors placed in different areas such as the head, face, chest and legs record various parameters such as brain activity, eye movements, heart rhythm, respiration and muscle activity.

In which cases is it used?

Polysomnography is used to diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnoea, breathing stops during sleep, problems falling asleep, night sweats. It is applied to evaluate sleep quality and to identify problems that occur during sleep.

Data Evaluation and Results

The data obtained are analysed by a sleep specialist. These data play an important role in diagnosing the sleep disorder and determining appropriate treatment methods. Based on the test results, the experts assess the patient’s sleep status and determine the course of treatment.

Conclusion

The polysomnography test is an important tool in the diagnosis of sleep disorders and the development of treatment plans. This test helps to identify sleep problems by analysing the body functions of the person during sleep in detail and allows more effective treatment approaches to be determined.
