WHAT IS SLEEP ENDOSCOPY? WHAT IS IT FOR?

Sleep endoscopy is performed to locate the tissues that are the source of vibration during sleep or to determine the level and location of obstruction if there is obstruction. The basis for the need for sleep endoscopy is to confirm the problems predicted in the examinations and sleep tests, if performed.

Since even some of the surgeries performed for the problems predicted in the examination and sleep tests resulted in failure, such a confirmation test was needed. Thus, the surgical decision is made more point-specific and the failure rates are aimed to decrease.

How to do it?

Basically, sleep endoscopy is no different from gastric endoscopy for the patient. An intravenous drug is administered to the patient and the patient is put to sleep with the effect of this drug.

Once the depth of sleep and relaxation is achieved, the throat, pharynx and laryngeal muscles are examined with the camera and the tissues and levels that are the source of the problem can be precisely determined. Afterwards, if desired, it is possible to switch to full anaesthesia and surgical interventions can be performed on these points in the same session.

If no surgical procedure is performed, the procedure takes 30 minutes and you can leave the hospital within half a day.

Type of Anaesthesia : Sedation

Duration : 30min

The time between entry and exit from the hospital: Half a day
